With strong anchor institutions and an abundance of arts & cultural as well as private sector businesses, University Circle is one of the largest employment drivers in the state of Ohio.
There is nowhere else in Cleveland with the density of world-class educational resources as University Circle. Preschools, grade schools, high schools, and prestigious universities call this neighborhood home.
Development Projects
UCI's goal is to create a premier urban district and neighborhood of choice open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Proposed and Ongoing Developments
Ford and Hessler Development Project
The project includes the restoration of two homes on Ford Road and new residential construction on Hessler Road.
Pedestrian Signage
UCI worked with Studio Graphique to extend the wayfinding program with a series of multi-point directional signs, area maps, and kiosks that will be installed at key locations throughout the Circle in spring, 2010. UCI completed construction on the Wade Oval kiosk in 2010 which serves as an extension of the Visitor Center and UCI's focus on the visitor experience.
Bring Back Euclid Avenue
UCI raised more than $7 million for this campaign, and is making ongoing investments along the Avenue. The central gateway at Euclid Avenue and Mayfield Road is quickly becoming the epicenter of activity in the Circle, and the area's public spaces need to complement this exciting activity. UCI is renovating existing buildings, supporting institutional expansion, and investing in new developments that will create the perfect entryway into the Circle.
Greater Circle Living
In June 2008, UCI, joined by the Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation and the Cleveland Foundation, created an incentive program designed to attract new homebuyers and renters to live in Greater University Circle and to inspire existing homeowners to make improvements. The program is funded by Case, Cleveland Clinic, the Cleveland Foundation, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Judson at University Circle, The Kent H. Smith Charitable Trust, the Surdna Foundation and University Hospitals. In the first year and a half of the program, Greater Circle Living successfully awarded 14 Circle employees with down payment assistance to purchase a home in the Greater Circle area, in addition to 3 set to close by the end of November, 14 employees were approved for a matching home improvement grant to their existing home, and 8 employees received 1 month's rental assistance to move into the Greater Circle.
